Take Action to Stop Senate Bill 3

Senate Bill 3 could reshape the fight for fairness and equity by eliminating policies that proactively address systemic inequities.

SB3 will stifle programs of equity that are designed to crack open doors of opportunity that have historically been locked to women and communities of color.

This rollback could harm historically disadvantaged groups, while also increasing workplace and educational disputes about perceived discrimination.

SB3 takes aim at affirmative action programs supporting women in traditionally male-dominated fields and would potentially limit educational opportunities, scholarships, and support programs for minority students, reducing access to higher education for those who have historically faced barriers.

This bill could also hurt funding and staffing for public HBCUs like UAPB, Shorter College, and Arkansas Baptist College. These public HBCUs could see state funding for diversity-related programs reduced, forcing them to seek alternative funding sources, a reality that could eliminate resources for staffing and equity-centered research.

Although SB3 says it excludes veterans, it doesn’t add definitive language for veteran protections. Simply put, we cannot redefine the state's definition of minorities which already includes “veterans.” This bill could actually lead to more veterans filing lawsuits about unfair treatment, access to healthcare and business opportunities if they feel they've been denied certain privileges.
